Okay, call me optimistic, but here's the Crele Penedesenca that I think is a pullet:

And here's the one I think is a cockerel:

I couldn't get a decent shot of the two black ones because they were jumping all over the place. I'm positive one of them is a cockerel, but the other one has a markedly smaller comb, so I'm crossing my fingers that I have hit the chick sexing lotto and gotten male/female pairs of the two colors. That would be incredible!!

Love to hear from you chicken pros what you see.

Hmm. Good news on the pullet situation, but odd news about the coloration and breed. These little ones are from a hatchery back east that specializes in Penedesencas, so it would seem fairly unlikely that they are Sicilian Buttercups. One thing is for sure though, when they start laying, the answer will be obvious. My buttercup would lay the most beautiful chalk white torpedo shaped eggs. These ladies are supposed to lay eggs so dark they make a maran's eggs look pale. Can't wait!

I agree, the crele and partridge pullets look very similar when they are young, but the dead give away are those blue legs... its good news too as the partridge variety lays a darker egg than the creles.
