OK that makes sense. Thanks!Well, is hard to buy silkies any other way, unless you get a "guaranteed" pullet from a breeder that does the DNA testing.

Wow. Just... wow.I hatched 14 silkies (out of 16 eggs) this past May, 11 of the 14 were cockerels!
At least you had a good hatch rate... what did you do with the cockerels?I hatched 14 silkies (out of 16 eggs) this past May, 11 of the 14 were cockerels!
I sold all the chicks except for 6 as 1-3 day olds, found out from the new owners later they were all boys. They have good homes! At least you had a good hatch rate... what did you do with the cockerels?
Wow that's interesting. That's great you ended up with the gals though.I sold all the chicks except for 6 as 1-3 day olds, found out from the new owners later they were all boys. They have good homes!
Of the 6 I kept, I had them DNA tested (with feathers) at 6 weeks of age, ended up with 3 girls, 3 boys. Kept one boy, the other two went to a friend who is a breeder. I just happened to end up with the 3 pullets by chance or luck or karma, not sure how that worked out!
Wow! Early crowers. At least you know for sure with those anyway!UPDATE: Gray polish and both black frizzles crowed this morning.
