ok, one of the most perplexing questions for us silkie beginners is "What do I have here?" I need to make myself a list of things to look out for.

Rooster:
crowing
carry wings downward
heavy comb and wattles
long "streamer" feathers from back of head

Hen:
carry wings straight back
lays an egg

what other signs and wonders am I looking for?

I've read males have a more slicked back crest and might have a bumpier comb. Females have a non-slicked back, maybe poofier crests with a smoother comb.

roosters also stand more erect than a hen/pullet. They will stick their chest out more and extend their neck, at least mne do.
