sexing silkies

here are my silkies, this was taken about a week ago, they've been moved to the coop and a beautiful run which they are too 'chicken' to go into as of yet.
their eyes are slowly disappearing in the fluff.

might be hard to tell by the pics. I want to try the toe thing, and I did, but, upon reading it back I think i did it wrong.
well, i know I did.

I just tested the toe thing with my silkies and if it is correct i have one roo. Only time will tell because my silkies are only 4 weeks old, but the one with different length toes is bigger than the others and is the one I suspected as a roo.

What are you talking about with the "toe thing"? They absolutely can not be sexed by the length of their toes. With silkies, the first telltale sign of a cockerel is usually the comb size. At that age, the pullets will have no comb development yet. I see at least 2-3 cockerels in those pics.

are you refering to my pictures, if so, egads, that's not good either. I don't want to keep raising roos. I need females. sob sob.

or are you refering to the pics on page 1 ?

erin0415: if you could get individual pics of them, one showing they're whole body from the side, and one showing they're comb, it would be a lot easier.

sorry LIlPeeps, saw the title, thought I'd try out the expertise of the silkie experts on the thread topic.
whoopsie.
no matter, I'll wait till they grow up and crow or not.
