Sexing silkies

Okay I'm a newbie with chickens, but I'm a bit obsessive when I'm learning about something new. A lot of the research says pretty much there is no 100% sexing methods, except to wait, there are lots of heads up signs. One is roos will have kind of slicked back uneven topknot with streamers where pullets will have even little puff balls. Also males are supposed to get their combs and wattles early (no one specified "early" but several said "overnight") with non bearded developing waddles is a good sign its a boy. Other than those there was a bunch of old wives tales. Hope this helped.

normally you can tell by: 1. pullets will be perfect balls with heads that look like smooth afros and will have little to no bumps on the comb. 2. cockerels will have bumpy combs, they will look more like a spiky ball, and their heads will look spiky.

hummm I will be watching this. I have a reddish silkie, a reddish one with a charcoal/red afro (both of which are developing multi coloured wing 'feathers') and a charcoal silkie with bits of red like highlights ... all are 10 weeks and one is developing a tiny bit of waddle, all are in different stages of feathered feet... all are just sweet!

A pet quality Silkie can be sexed at an earlier age, however, a better quality or Show Quality Silkie will take anywhere from 4-6 months before you can sex them.

Silkies are very deceiving when it comes to sexing them.
