Hi! I'm about to be hatching some Silver Ameraucana chicks from a dozen eggs I'm getting from a local breeder and although I'm familiar with raising Ams, have no experience with the Silver variety. So, I decided to ask the wonderful community here for some pointers on early gender cues for them. I know they feather out very differently as adults, but is this something you can see early on, like with wheatens? Or does it take a while? I'd really like to have a bit of a heads up on genders so I'll know what kind of ratio I'm looking at having. I've had really good luck at guessing genders in Ams before by looking at their combs at about a week old, looking for the telltale "3 rows" of peas, but it's not super reliable. Any suggestions or tips would be greatly appreciated!

They do feather in differently. The real first sign will be the breat area so it'll take 3 weeks or so.
Females feather in mostly reddish while males will have mostly black.

Ok, thank you so much! I was thinking it would be similar to the wheatens since they have such different adult plumage. That gives me something to look forward to. I love the birds you can see fairly early like that. Now, my bbs Ameraucanas are obviously gonna be a different story...I always agonize for ages over their genders. But at least I'll know pretty quickly what the silvers and wheatens are. Thanks again!
