Crowing
I believe the stock has a lot to do with being able to tell Brahma chicks male/female early or not. Or at least what I've been able to deduct from our own trial and errors lol
Our first batch of light Brahmas from TSC(Hoovers) was a pullet bin on sale, 5 of them left, yay! One week in and I had my suspicion that one was a cockerel, three weeks in he had this huge red comb (and poor thing was dumb as rocks lol) few more weeks started to crow at 6 weeks and luckily found him a home with some jersey giants.
Our second group was buffs, all pullets, and luckily all pullets, even though one feathered out super slow that we thought we had another oops lol
That said, our buffs have denser/thicker feathered feet than our lights, and one of our lights is a huge mini dinosaur. She dwarfs the rest .
We just hatched 6 buff Brahmas and we are watching them closely, three have straight wings(day old) and three have staggered wings. Coincidentally the three with straight had almost white wings. The other three are darker all over.
I've also read recently that a Buff roo over a light hen creates sexlink chicks? Interested in finding out for certain! Although it'll be a year before we can test that here.
The photos of the smaller lights they are 4ish weeks old then.
Babies are two days old in photos
Buffs are 24ish weeks I believe? Maybe 26 in photos
