good morning all.
I’m just wondering if anyone can help me sex my young turkeys?
I hatched out 5 but 3 had some sort of issue flipping on their backs and were culled.
They are a mix of bourbon and buff I think.
TIA

Both look like they are hens but I doubt that they are a cross of Bourbon Red and Jersey Buff.

If they aren't strutting around they are not toms! lol. Mine are 2 days old and strut around. They love the sound of their own voice and are rarely quiet. :)

Both hens and toms can and do strut. While the ones that I have had strut at a very early age turned out to be toms, I know others who have had their early strutters turn out to be hens.

I’ve see the darker one strut at my dog
Not sure if we have “jersey buffs” here in Australia.
It is common for hens to strut especially when there are no toms around.

The only difference in color genes between a Bourbon Red and a Jersey Buff is the Bourbon Red is bronze based (bb) and the Jersey Buff is black based (BB). If there are Black turkeys and Bourbon Reds, there is no reason that there can't be Jersey Buffs. Many people refer to Jersey Buffs simply as Buffs.

Thanks for your help guys.
You’ve made myself, my kids and especially my husband very happy.
We thought his “babies” might both have been males in which case either “gobble” or “bobble” would have to go

I’m thinking about getting a baby turkey to raise for Thanksgiving Dinner. But I know nothing about raising turkeys. Any and all information would be appreciated. How much space, roosting, feed, etc........ Thanks everyone :hugs
