I just got some Welsummers in and was trying to sex them by their down, but I'm not an expert so I want to know your opinion. I was sent 3 males and 2 females (hatchery screwed up my order of 3 females and 2 males), so did they get it right?

Generally it is best to confirm with a facial profile to also see the eyeliner, but from your photos, 3 and 4 look to be males with 1 likely male.

2 looks to be female and 5 female.

Usually (if the line is held carefully), the full chipmunk stripe from top of head, with crisp triangle, all the way down the neck, down the back, to the tail, with good eyeliner is female.

Males will look more washed out in overall color, not as crisp at the head, and the stripe will break skipping the neck and pick up again at the back. Eyeliner will look especially diffuse.

But you can have surprises.

I’ve no experience with hatchery welsummmers, I bought mine from a backyard breeder. These were mine:

The ringed one is the male.

Pullet

I also think 2 and 5 are your females.
