Want to be able to get better at sexing by wings, is that possible? First two same chick second two same chick

I think the chicks are too old, and only some can be feather sexed no all and it depends on if mom or dad had the slow vs fast feathering gene. I don't know specifics but there are threads on he re with more info or someone will chime in hopefully

I do all varieties, fast or slow feathered. Doesn't matter.

I'd wait till obvious comb, & wattle growth/color start appearing.

Feather sexing is only reliable with specific crosses.

Also works well with salmon faverolles.. you can tell very easily

They are definitely to old to sex by wings, update at 8 weeks with pics of combs and full body pictures

Cistan, the first post in this link explains how sexing by sex linking works, red sex links, black sex links, and feather sexing. I had to read it a few times and ask questions for it to sink in. The hen only gives the sex linked genes to her sons, the daughters get nothing from her. The rooster gives a gene at that gene pair to all his offspring.

If the hen has the dominant version of that gene and the rooster only has the recessive version and you can see the results at hatch, the cockerels will have a copy of the dominant gene and display it. The pullets will only get a recessive gene from their father and display that. In the case of sex linked feather sexing the mother has the dominant slow feathering gene and the father has the recessive fast feathering gene at both points of that gene pair. The cockerels get the dominant slow feathering gene from their mother, the pullets don't. There are photos of what to look for in that post.

This is the way scientific sex linking works. The parents have to be set up correctly genetically so you need to know if they have the dominant or recessive versions of the sex linked genes. Once you make sex links you cannot use the offspring to make more of the same type of sex links, the genetics aren't set up right. I have no idea what anyone that claims they can feather sex any chick bases that claim on or even what feathers they are looking at. I will mention that the commercial hatcheries that use feather sexing use the scientific method.
