Feather sexing only works if the breeders are matched up for it. You have to breed a fast feathering roo to a slow feathering hen or vice versa to be able to sex chicks that way.

Most large fowl breeds are vent sexed at a hatchery, while others are feather sexed (if bred for it) and then there are the sex link type birds.

Typically vent sexing is no easy feat, so average people just wait 4-5 weeks to figure out the roos (on most breeds).

Ah, well. I knew it was too good to be true. I can already see at two weeks old, which of my cochins are male, but the Silkies will take months longer, I know. Guess I'll just have to be patient.
