Is that a thing? I have not researched ducks nearly as much as chickens. But now with so many ducks after my first attempt at hatching them, and getting 100% hatch, I have quite a few!
I have noticed that as they mature, the ones that appeared to all have their own coloring are male and those with a different coloring are female. They are all crosses but I am wondering if the cross resulted in sexlink birds since they were distinctly colored at hatch and watching as they mature it is clear they were distinctly different all along. And the cross is really quite pretty!
So...are sexlink ducks a thing? Is it common? Can they be purchased at hatch by sex?

Breeding For Sex-Linked Ducklings

That was a cool read! Thank you. I will have to read it several more times to absord it so it is a good thing I like learning things...especially things not everyone generally knows lol.
my females are a feed store KC and a feed store F/W runner and a lower quality feed store Rouen. My males are F/W runner, and a Rouen. So all mallard derived and with heaven only knows what parentage. So no clue as to who is carrying what chocolate. Maybe I will get some picks posted today. Very fun looking they all are😊

It appears that I have straight up Rouens, and many varieties of runner over rouen and runner over kc...blues, greys, browns. (My runner is the chief here lol. Rouen drake rarely gets much lovin’ outside of his Rouen lady).
At any rate, if I hatch again, I’ll get parents from pure breeders and have a more calculated outcome lol

Browns on the left are female. The males are pretty obvious but yes they are confirmed by voice lol. All in these pics are the youngsters except the one fully mature Rouen drake that wouldn’t get out of my shot lol. See the grey/blue ones? With neck rings? Also male and the 2 darker grey are SO pretty in person! The pale browns still have Rouen markings around their eyes that seems intent on staying. At any rate, I just love the colors of this hatch! The two dark grey appear to be feathering out in a very similar permanent grey. Love it
