We are new to this urban chicken thing and hoping someone can help me know if we brought home a cockerel instead of a pullet.
We got 3 chicks on Oct 9, 2016 - a Rhode Island Red, Speckled Sussex and Welsummer. I'm pretty sure the other two are pullets, but the Welsummer has me worried.
Welsummers can be sexed not only by the amount of comb, but by color once they're feathered out. Your boy had black feathers on his breast, that's a male sign. Females of this breed/color have salmon/brown breasts.
