shade cloth- how do you use it?

Oh boy I know what IM asking Santa for Chrismas a d remote temp sensor.. yessssss

I also have 3/4ths covered. I used a large piece of garden cloth we had left over.. it works great it shades but they can see thru it at the same time and allows great air flow too. I have this on the east side, then blue tarp on top and 1/4th way down so 3/4s of the walls are open on the south, west and north sides... i do agree with the poster about if you have tarping on top, cut a slit or too for rain to fall or sags and calpses can happen.. I have my slits away from where the bird roost.

I have them as close to a big old cypress tree as they can get on the north west which is the direction of 90% of our storms.
this helps soo much

I will post picture if the first run, only one that is done. On the road right now headingback from in-law visit.
We thought of covering half of roof run.

The side and divides are or will be covered with 1/2" hardware cloth (from CSN online, poster recomdation), roof covered with 1" heavy game bird netting (from pacific netting, another poster recomdation). The roof does have several trusses to support the netting.

We have only the first run done, the smallest at 10x13. The netting we put up quickly just before heading out of town, chickens discover they could hop out, need to finish stapling.
other runs will be 10x20.

Chickens are getting deluxe accommodations but We really notice the difference in conditioning when the birds can spend some time outdoors, just want to keep direct sun to minimum to reduce heat and feather fading.
