Shade Cloth

Here are some pictures showing how we did our roof....

Attached 3/4" PVC pipe to the top rail of the dog run with brace rail clamps (found in the chain link fencing section of lowes; pretty inexpensive);

The run was 7 feet wide so we cut the pipe to 7.5 foot lengths (since your runs are 10 feet wide you could glue an inexpensive 3/4" PVC coupler to your pipe and add another 1/2 foot section to give it the "hoop). We were originally going for 8 foot sections but that gave it too much of a "loop".

We were working with 36" hardware cloth so we placed the pipes at 3 foot intervals and ran the cloth over each piece one at a time, attaching them to the pipe with zip ties:

The end piece of hardware cloth was attached to the top rail first, then attached to the last PVC pipe and trimmed:

The final result (before we put the shade cloth on):

This was not difficult to do but it went easier if two people were working on a section at the same time (each one doing the zip ties on their pipe).

It's very sturdy and so far has stood up to some humdinger summer storms we had.

Make sure your dog run frame is sturdy enough so the pressure of the hoops don't cause the top rails to bend outward. We purchased this run from www.yourfencestore.com and it was sturdy enough to take the hoops without bending outward.

I hope this makes sense...

I love this and the tarp!

I know this is an old thread, but I'm looking for a great quality shade cloth for the best price. Anyone have any tips on where to go?
I've seen tarps, but it seems like some may hold heat in. Don't need that.

Really appreciate any help. it's getting warm over here
