My chicken "tractor" is my kids' trampoline--with chicken wire around the frame. The "mat" of the tramp is the perfect shade cloth. It's virtually indestructable, doesn't trap rain like a tarp, and provides almost 100% shade. When I order a new mat for the tramp/tractor, I'm going to put the old one over the chicken run.

yeah the avatar looks like a lot of ppl's mother in law i think! Nope no solitary confinement yet but its a good idea for the chickens who stop laying! Punishment!

We use lattice over the top and on some of the sides of the pens to give ours shade.
It works great. We even use it in the windows of porch to shade in there for our dogs. We use lattice for so much......probably more than duct tape!!!!!
