Shadow had a 100% hatch with her three babies (two weren't fertile at all and were tossed at Day 9). I lucked out and the Barred Rock chick belonging to my oldest BR hen, Ivy, is a pullet! Her name, in keeping with the nature theme, is Fern. There is one black Orp and one medium blue Orp baby. No idea of the sex of those two. Anyway, here are some pics of them for you to enjoy.

TOO CUTE. I'M THINKING ABOUT PICKING UP 3 CHICKS FROM MY LOCAL FEED STORE FOR ONE OF MY HENS THAT IS GOING BROODY. I CAN'T FIND ANYONE AROUND HERE THAT HAS EGGS THAT ARE ABOUT TO HATCH SO I FIGURED I WOULD TRY THE OLD BAIT AND SWITCH PLAN. OH DID I MENTION I HAVE NO ROOSTER . I DON'T KNOW IF IT WILL MAKE A DIFFERENCE BUT I'M GONNA GIVE IT A TRY.

aaawwwww Suede babies. Ivy has a cute little girl there too.

BTW Shadow is absolutely stunning Cyn...she is really a beautiful girl.

Thanks so much! Shadow was bought to keep a single chick company, my only banty. She's a hoot, that girl. Loves DH and he makes alot of her (also known as SPOILING the PRINCESS). I'm proud of her; she's done an exemplary job with the babies so far. I've had three first-time broodies this year already and I'm just waiting for someone else who have previously raised chicks to go broody again.

I have noticed one thing that Shadow does that my other previous five broodies did not-she actually tells them to drink, rather than just drinks and they follow suit. That was the first thing she did this morning when she stood up, went to the water and clucked for them to come drink with her.
