Hi I'm not sure if I should post this in the Pekin forum or post it under health, but all of you know a whole lot about Pekins so I ask you. I am new to ducks my maybe girls are a 5 weeks old. I noticed one of my ducklings has a very shaky leg, I thought it was because she was scared, but noticed it when I wasn't even near by. I did see some posts about the duck may need "Niacin" as a supplement . Is that correct and should I get oral? and put it in the water? I hope it's not the other reason why they have shaky legs

Thank you so much for any help.

I am following this thread because I am having a similar issue. I have a brood of 6, 4 week olds. 3 Silver appleyards, 2 KC/Rouens & 1 KC. Two of the appleyards started to have shaky legs in the last couple of days.

First 3 weeks I was giving chick starter with brewers yeast and they were doing well. This week, started giving 18% protein all flock grower pellets, mixed with brewers yeast. Shaky legs started yesterday, so I started adding powdered niacin tablets to their water.

Some birds just need extra, i'll be honest i am having some issues with some 11wk olds so am trying to get some brewers yeast this afternoon, definitely adding some extra for a few days and see if that helps...

do you know if they are drakes? mine are that are having the issues, they actually are fine otherwise, run, flap.. swim and so forth they grow hard though, and sometimes again need a little extra boost, my duckling is fine and the smallest drake all the same clutch...

aw, the joys lol

The food that I'm using is Chick Starter, it's all they had at the particular place I went. People looked at me strange when I asked for duck starter. I also try feeding them a little bit of banana, they do not like being hand feed one bit. I'm still not sure if I have hens or drakes, I think I may have a pair, one seems to be getting a curly tail not a tail feather but looks a little different than my other. The one with the shaky leg I think is the hen.
She seems to act fine otherwise, except yesterday she caught my eye because it looked like she was shaking all over, I only saw her do that once otherwise it's just that one leg.
