Shame on Amazon.com...

I agree, Varisha.
I enjoy my animals and take good care of them.
Some people do not and do not deserve to have animals of any kind, or kids either, but that's another story.
PETA wants you to spay and neuter your animals, which is a great idea, BUT, they do it with the idea that if your pet crosses the bridge, that you won't get another one because all of the animals have been fixed so that they can't breed and that you will be unable to get one because they've now gone extinct and are freed from their lives of "slavery"...
Stupid isn't it, how a great thing can be twisted around...
But they'll take my animals over my cold dead body...I don't care if it's my hens or my fish or if I had a dog or a cat...It's a great privilege to keep an animal as a companion...I like some of them better than people...
Excuse my running at the mouth...I have a cold and I'm rather crabby...

I just want to say that the organization does do animal rescues, including on the grand scale of 10,000 animals rescued after hurricane Katrina. It operates some shelters, trains many people who run shelters and does much more than advocacy.

I found one myself on thier site..

EDIT #2: a different view on organization part in helping at hurricane Katrina
http://www.consumerfreedom.com/news_detail.cfm/headline/2879

I would be very interested in the final tally for each group that went down there and resuced animals and how many(or what %) of those animals from each group ended up back with thier people.

The main thing organization serves as, is a centre for other humane societies. They are the parent organization, the main headquarters of the agency, so in essence, they do rescue animals everyday, several times a day, up to tens of millions a year nationwide...and tens of millions more around the globe.

So yes...they do much much more than advocacy.

Groups of people who are against them and any other animal protection agency, generally use basic fallacy measures in their reports, so you get an article filled with one sided views and maybe a single liner to show the opposition. Good reports are going to show a good amount of information from both sides of an issue.

If there's an animal protection agency to really criticize is fish and game. After a few interesting chats with fish and game officers, I'm convinced fish and game kill more animals than the people they are hired to stop. IMO, they're worse than PETA.

One question and one comment -
Question: Is animal fighting illegal in every state in the union?
Comment: Don't like the workings of PETA, organization, ASPCA, or whatever? Then go get directly involved at your local shelter or rescue league! I guarantee that they are underfunded, understaffed, overcrowded, and desperate for volunteers!

"What Amazon.com is doing is illegal (selling products that condone a federal offense)", In this country, believe it or not, your are considered innocent until proven guilty. Therefore freedom of the press is still in play, and its one of the few freedoms we havent given up yet. So until the court decides, and by the way if it was a strong criminal case, Amazon would have been hit with a court injunction. This is A CIVIL trial , not a criminal trial, where sadly to say the consitution has very little standing.

HSUS is not the parent of the other humain societies. Only the name misleads people into thinking that. They have no control and no responsibility to the the shelters in our towns. What organization mostly does is pay lobiest to presure goverment to do what organization wants.

I also want to say I do help where and when I can with my local groups. Either by giving my time or my things (collars, halters, crates). I also send letters to congress on the issues I think important

I'm more inclined to donate to my local shelters also than I am to a faceless conglomerate in Foggy Bottom...I've made donations to the Scituate Animal Shelter, Foster Parrots and The New England Wildlife Center where I can go and see how my hardearned money is being spent...Where I work, we do donations at the register for the animal charities through Spring a Pet and Tree of Hope.
On the other hand, the closest Animal Rescue League site is being closed because it's not making a profit...last time I looked, the ARL is NON-profit! It's being managed badly by the director...it's really a sad state of affairs...

From what I have heard organization and PETA do a lot of hand holding with each other. PETA has been know to go to dog shows and turn dogs loss so help them if any of them ever try to touch my dog I may be 5' tall but a stick of dynamite is small also ha ha. organization use to be a good organization but with them joining forces with PETA often I just can't support them. With tthat said dog fighting and cockfighting and any other abuse of animals is just wrong. Somedays I am ashamed to be of the human race.

In the 10+ years I've kept updated with organization issues, I've yet to see organization affiliate themselves with PETA and I've deliberately looked for it.

There's a sigh of relief for you...lol.
