A few weeks ago my 8yo ds mentioned a contest they were having on the cartoon network channel. Something about calling a 1-800 number when it flashed across the screen to win some Harry Potter legos and a video game. I said," Sure I will call." So the night came and the number was shown. I started calling on my cell, and ds called on the house phone. I had speed dial, but he had to dial the number every time. Ds gave up after an hour or so,but I kept calling. Became so automatic I was hanging up before I even heard the message telling me I was not a winner.

After I took the dogs out I decided to keep calling.I think it was around 11:30(5 hours after the contest started) that I got a live person.Lol, I almost hung up on them! Since I was calling for ds I had to wake him up to verify he *existed*. I don't think he understood what was going on until after I hung up. After a few days we got the paperwork to fill out. Then we waited.

I told him to not get his hopes up,because I won't believe we won anything until we actually have it. We did not win the big trip to CA lego land, but we are still pretty darn happy to get these legos. It would take years for us to afford them. The legos came yesterday. I set them up in the living room, and kept silent when I went to pick up the kids. Ds walked into the room and just about cried when he saw all the stuff. I am looking at getting one or 2 small things for each kid this holiday,so this was a very nice gift for us.

And to boot yesterday one of our 5 teen hens laid her first egg.We were super happy for her! A very nice day.

I stopped for gas this morning on the way in to work and as I was getting ready to leave a woman and her her young son came out of the gas station, the little guy starts pointing and saying "mommy mommy transformer car". He was dragging her across the parking lot "transformer car" over and over. He gets close enough to touch the car and looks at me and says "love transformers" His mom was so embarased and red from the neck up, it was all I could do not to bust out laughing. It asked her if it was ok to show him and she said ok, I opened the door and let him look inside then I said ok get in. The grin on his face was so big I swear it went all the way around and touched in the back. I figured he would get in and sit down but nope we have to stand in the seat. lol I thought he was going to keel over when I opened the sun roof and he could stick his head out. In the end I was 20 minutes late for work and had 2 little foot prints on the seat but that grin just made my day and I made his i'm sure.

I was out getting my oldest horse his breakfast in the front yard this morning, and glanced in the French doors to see if everyone was up getting breakfast. My 6 year old was not getting breakfast; he was knelt down on the floor with his arms wrapped around our old basset hound.

He was still petting her five minutes later when I came in the house. Just glancing in and seeing that made my whole morning!

I went outside yesterday to help a customer and almost fell on my seat. There by the back door was a pile of pecans. After I helped with the sales, I scratched my head and said to self what in the world. Who tried to trip me at the door. Then I turned around and saw my cat Nancy Jo, bringing up a pecan in her mouth and dropped it at my feet.

I laughed and cried at the same time. I have never seen a pecanning cat but then I cried thinking that she brought the best she had to bring and had seen me pick them up for days, so of course, the bright cat knew that they were valuable to me! That's my gal!

This seems very small to some, but to the folks who know what I've been going through with my hens, losing so many to internal laying, it will make sense. I have six hens in my Old Hens' Home. Three of those are my original girls, five years old. They've been molting and not laying for several months. Yesterday, I heard my younger Buff Orp who lives with them cackle. Went to get her egg. As I picked it up, I saw a second brown egg in the other nest! That means one of the three oldest hens has begun laying again and hasn't malfunctioned.

My older son drove a couple hours to see me on my birthday yesterday. It was the first time I saw him in over two years since he works about 80 hours a week. My younger son called me from the Republic of Georgia where he is teaching English for a year and seems very happy with his new life.

Oh these are all such wonderful stories and I'm so happy to read them...BYC please keep the stories coming! They keep my heart happy and warm! Nancy

I was running my errands today and passed a man broken down on the side of the road. I had a LOT to do...headed to get groceries and back home to cook for our dinner tomorrow..early Thanksgiving with my eldest. So LOADS to do. I figured in this day and time, the guy had a cell and had already called for help. Then I thought well what the hay...I'll go back and make sure. So I turned around, went back, pulled over, asked the man if he needed help, he said "I can't talk" which I thought was an odd thing to say...considering he just did what he said he couldn't...come to find out, this sweet little man had had a stroke, could only say a few words, and couldn't even hook up jumper cables due to damage to his hands. This was right beside a body shop. Turns out those guys had come out to help and obviously couldn't figure out what he was tryng to say and left him there.

From what I could understand...he had been there a while. I asked him if I could call someone for him, he pulls out this piece of paper from his wallet, and pointed to a phone number for a lady named Joyce, who turns out to be his sister in law. I got them on their way, and told him I would stay with him until they got there. I chatted with him, and when I asked questions he couldn't tell me the answer to I could see the frustration and I just told him that was okay, he didn't have to answer. He seemed very frustrated to not be able to tell me something. I was telling him jokes and he was laughing, made the time pass, and I finally said could we jump it off. Well got my cables out, and started hooking them up, and the clamp fell off one of the cables

So, we couldn't use those...well, thankfully, my dear brother who was headed to work just so happened to see us and called me, HE had cables!!!

FINALLY after an hour of hanging out with him....We hooked him up, got it started, I got a hug from him

and we left just a couple minutes before his brother got there. I called the number back after I got home to check on him and make sure things went okay. Turns out this man has 95% blockage in his arteries, and was trying to get this truck going before he had to go into the hospital. The truck, a 1950 model Chevrolet, is the last thing his mother gave him before her death

He was so upset because he was driving it home from the shop after spending a HUGE sum of money on it when it broke down. For you all that pray, please pray for my new friend Billy tonight. He is having a rough go of things lately and could use some lifting up. He was incredibly sweet, and though he could not speak well, we had a lovely conversation. I hope to see him again some day under better circumstances of course

He was a blessing.

2 out of my 3 teenagers are now tax-paying citizens

might not sound like much but with jobs so scarce it feels like a miracle to me
