We just finished our coop and are about to start the run! Would love to see real examples of how people set up their runs!
there’s lots of pictures online, but I would love to see from you all what has worked for your chickens?
- bedding
- entertainment
- food/water
- other things ??

thanks!!

Outside run is netted. Plastic gallon bottles cut to make secondary feeds and water. Old buckets, plant containers, bins added to break up line of sight so they can get away from each other. 2x2 perch to fly up on.

This was our former setup in town. The new property will have a larger coop and run. We will make the run full height because cleaning the short one was too hard on my back.

The far half of the run was roofed but the other half was open for light and air. Food and water were kept inside the run door under the covered section. Since the run was predator-hardened I never closed the pop door.

My bantams have a geodesic dome with a 'fortress' connected by a tunnel. They come out into the garden as well. I also have a broodyhouse set up there on the right.

We built some perches in the dome which they love to fly up to and planted bamboo inside (protected by mesh til it gets bigger) though it's a bit hard to see those things in the first pic. They also have a lean-to for shade and to get out of the rain. I'm growing nasturtiums which will hopefully clamber up all over the dome for shade in the summer and they'll be able to nibble on the leaves. Also to the right is a nascent wildflower meadow which will attract insects for the chooks to catch in the dome and give them a little jungle to wander through when they're out.
