What was something you found out that was life changing when raising chickens?

When I realized you do not have to keep chicks warm, you need to give them a warm up place. And the sooner you get them out into the coop and run, the better it is. They get more sunshine and more exercise. Mine are off heat at night from day one, and out of the brooder into the coop/run by week 3.

That chickens know a whole lot more about being chickens than we do, so our job is to provide them with what they need (food, protected shelter, clean water), and then sit back and learn from them all the rest of it.
