I also think that Scovies are beautiful birds, I love their odd looks and their friendly charakter. But I have learned to respect their claws. I have more than one scar on my hands from them

And before anyone complains about too much text in a picture thread, here are some (quite) old ones:

My Muscovies at three weeks old. They had just arrived that day. The duckling at the front is the drake.

My couple of Hookbills. Sadly both of them died last year for unknown reasons, the drake in march and the duck in early october.

Pekin x Hookbill cross.
Beautiful Ducks,, sorry about the hook bills they are such neat looking ducks. Pretty hook bill/pekin cross too.

Indeed they are pretty rare and not easy to get. There are just a handful of breeders around and if you don't know someone who knows someone, it gets difficult. Even in their native country, the Netherlands, they are not a common sight nowadays which is a crying shame because that breed is centuries old and very unique.

They are not really different from other ducks, but my drake had a problem with his plumage, whenever it got stressed, be it by snow or the harrasment of the Pekin drake, feathers would fall out so that it wasn't waterproof anymore. Additionally he was quite aggressive and subdued the Pekin drake (untill he had enough and fought back) and I'm sure that he would have killed a drake of his own size. He barely mated with his partner but rather tried to rape the Pekin duck.
The Hookbill duck barely laid eggs and the other female Hookbill died from fat liver, something that had never occured before with any of my birds and never after.

Thats very interesting. There is a member here on BYC that has Hook Bills But I've never seen many posts info or really talk much about them. Thats really to bad that even in their native country there aren't many.
