Share your favorite Hen or Rooster that you've had (now or before) and tell me why! I have 9 chickens now, and I do love them all, but my absolute FAVORITE chicken that I ever owned was my Hen, Faye. She was a little guardian chicken.

Completely free-roamed, she roosted on our front porch, kept any stray or barn cats in line, and kept predators away! Most often then not you would find her sitting on the porch rail right by the steps, roosted down and watching everything. When my husband returned from work she would run over and jump into his vehicle step to greet him immediately. She was always easy with my kids, who were babies at that time. She was, in every sense, a chicken-cat. Lol!

One day there were two cats that got into a fight in the middle of my yard. Next thing you know, here comes Faye, running hell over heather around the side of the house, puffed up to high heavens and yelling her little beak off, and jumped right into the middle of the cat fight and chased each cat off into a separate direction. My husband and I still talk about that memory, it was a grand thing to see, and I wish I could have got it on camera!

She was with us for 4 years before she disappeared one day. We couldn't find feathers or carcass anywhere, so we don't know if she finally got taken off by a predator, or if someone stole her. My husband was really upset over her loss. She was originally a flock of 4 but the other 3 went missing early on.

I'm a lot more careful now. My chickens are free-roaming a tiny bit now at 16-18 weeks old, but I still check on all of them regularly and send them all back to their run space hours before the sun starts going down. I also count each duck and chicken when I close the coop at night.

 

[Hen Heaven]

My favorite hen is Mrs. White. She has SO much character! You can say, "Helloooooo!" or "Mrs. Whiiiiite" and she would go, " Bucoooooook" as if she responded. Its like she said," Helloooooo!" right back to you! She has always been noisy and happy. She is nice most of the time to the others. By the way, she's a Light Brahma. I have videos of her, but here are only a couple pics of her:
