Hi all! I’m hoping you can help me figure out what’s going on with one of my royal palm turkey hens. She seems to have something really sharp sticking out of her neck. It is bristly and seems to be part of her. It seems that she’s not too irritated but it don’t want to leave it on her and let the other peck at it. I’m not even sure what it is. Does anyone know? How do I remove this ?? Thanks in advanced!

That is your turkey's beard and is normal. Both hens and toms can have beards. Leave it alone.

Thank you!! You can tell it’s my first time having turkeys! She was the only one that had it so I figured something was wrong but you guys know more than me. Thank you for the info!! I feel better!
Most turkey hens do not grow a beard but it is common enough that that states that allow the taking of tom turkeys in spring hunting seasons stipulate that bearded hens are legal to take.

I currently have 3 bearded hens and had a 4th that I sold several months ago.
