Sharp short shriek or bark noise - beak open like swallowing?

We have a 2-3yo Salmon Faveroles bantam. She has been making a short loud shriek or bark noise and seems to be holding her beak open alot. She seems to be feeding and watering OK and she stopped laying a year ago last Easter. Any idea what it could be? She seems healthy and happy other thatn that sharp barking noise. Is she turning into a rooster?

No. She is coughing.

Doubt it's a cough, maybe I explained it wrong. It sounds just like you would imagine if someone stepped right on her. Loud and shrill! I have also noticed that she is whimpering or whining quite a bit with her beak open. She looks fine in every other way however. I am mystified.

I've had this exactly the same thing happen to my Easter egger I just brought her in side and it help. I hope this helps
