Hi! I've been lurking in the community for a while, reading forums and such, but I have now decided to officially make an account! So, I guess I'll do this intro stuff.
(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
Not new - we've had small flocks (less than five) for as long as I can remember growing up.
(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
I bought more than we've ever had this spring! I have 18 young chickens and one adult laying hen.
(3) What breeds do you have?
Haha, a LOT. I love variety. Black Star, Silver Laced Wyandotte, Red Laced Blue Wyandottes, Whiting True Blue, Whiting True Green, Silver Gray Dorkings, Cuckoo Marans, Barred Rock, Ameraucana, Black Cochin, Speckled Sussex, Buttercups, Blue Andalusian, Ancona, Buff Minorca, Rhode Island Reds, and a bantam of an unknown breed.
(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens?
How therapeutic it is. Whenever I'm upset or having a rough day, I can sit out in the run and my babies jump up on me and it makes me feel very loved. It's a wholesome experience.
Farm fresh eggs are also a huge benefit!
(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
I like to draw/animate, do athletics, swim, read, play video games. I can have fun doing pretty much anything.
(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.
I have a very loving family, and also a whole BUNCH of other pets! Two indoor house cats, some ducks I got alongside the chicks I got this year, some geese, some barn cats, some dogs, horses... it's a lot of fun.
(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community?
Whenever I Google a question about my birds, this place always comes up first! I finally joined because I'm to the point where I'm worried an abnormal amount of my pullets are actually cockerels and I'd love some second opinions!
I look forward to being here and participating in the community!
