Hi I have a two yr old hen appears to be in good
health , great spirit. This past week she started to lay eggs that were coming out partially broken
Sometimes the soft shell would be stuck from
her butt. When I noticed this I soaked her in
some warm water and everything came out.

One night she was just standing in the yard for the longest time and all of a sudden an egg came out but no shell just the yolk . She seems to be wanting to stand rather than be in in nesting box and she is laying her eggs later in the evening. This morning I went out and there
was a broken egg on the table underneath there
roosting bar.

She has access to grit, oyster shell and crushed
egg shell and I started her on Chick ‘N Egg for
3 days this week CalVitD3 supp Can anyone
help with situation.
Thanks
Maureen

What is "Chick 'N Egg"?
What do you feed?

I would get extra calcium into her. You can find Calcium Citrate with D3 in the vitamin aisle of stores like Walmart, CVS, etc. Give 1 tablet daily, just pull down on her wattles, pop the tablet into the beak and let her swallow.

Look her over for lice/mites.

Any disturbances within the flock, have you added new birds or got rid of any?

Hi Just a quick question if you don’t mind. I got
the calcium citrate with Vit D and have been giving it to her daily. I’m not seeing any improvement, is this something that can take
awhile? Is it safe for her to get it daily for a
long period of time?

Thanks

Usually it is given for a week or so, to see if it makes a difference in shells. Are you given around 600 mg of the calcium daily? If not I would use that dosage. If calcium does not help, it may be a problem with her shell gland in the oviduct.

I started to increase it over the weekend because I could only find the 300mg citrate and VitD so
I cut it up a put it inside blueberries . She was
Figuring out was I was up to after a couple of
days when I was putting it in her beak and stopped coming to me. So this works so a bit of
Preparation for the berries. So I will give it another week if no change would you recommend stopping? And just see what happens?
I imagine there is nothing I can do for her if there
is and issue with the shell gland?

Thanks
