This is a 7 week old hen I purchased from the local feed store. She is feathering out SO beautiful and omg her eyes!!! She was sold as an Ameracauna, but I’ve read a lot lately that Easter Eggers are commonly sold as Ameracaunas. I don’t care either way, but I am curious....which one is she?

Could make a case for either. Her legs are dark but they do seem to have a green tint. Peacomb...check. My question would be where did you buy her. I know this year's stock from TSC came from a hatchery that calls the chicks Americana, often confused with the true Ameraucana, which is more than likely a type of Easter Egger. She's a beaut either way, but I myself will defer to the other experts until we know where she came from. Dem hackle feather though. They look quite sharp. You sure she's a she? Once again, just a question I went doubt you as she not my chicken. I am a starter when it comes to my own flock as well as my experience is limited other than the little bit I got as a kid with chickens.

This is a very interesting post. What would the difference be between americanus an Easter Eggers?
Ameraucanas come only in standard colors (blue, black, splash, wheaten, etc.), have slate legs, lay blue or blue-green eggs, have a full beard and muffs, and have a small, well formed pea comb.
Easter eggers *usually* lay colored eggs (brown, green, blue, etc.), can come in a wide variety of colors, usually have green legs, usually have a beard and muffs (some don't), and often have a larger less standard pea comb (some have other comb types).

Thank you. I was just wondering. I had assumed from the time I bought mine that they were Easter Eggers because we got them from a local farm supply store and they were labeled Americana/Easter egger. And I knew that to get a true Americana you need to go through certain hatcheries But it didn’t really matter to me whether was Americana or A Easter Egger but I was just wondering what the difference was. Thank you

Thank you for your input! I purchased her at the local country store. Formerly known as Cenex. Now it’s Skagit Farmer’s supply. I’m fairly certain she’s a female, she looks s lot like an adult EE I have, but I’m fsirly new to chickens as well so I would never say anything 100% at this point. I bought her for her coloring, I knew she was going to be beautiful! But I’m trying to learn the difference between the two breeds so I figured I would ask about this one here is a picture of my adult EE, she was also given to me as an Americauna...heck maybe she actually is!

I have a really hard time telling the difference! Here is the other “Ameracauna” I purchased at the same time as the one in the original pictures.

It makes me sad that I know so little about this breed, I think they’re absolutely beautiful birds!
