My ditzy, late developing BO has begun laying eggs in the last month. Her flockmates lay their eggs in the nest box every day but she just squats wherever she is and drops the egg. I found one rolling around on the back step and all the hens were kicking it and pecking it. I rescued it before they discovered that it was good to eat. Today I found one in the mud underneath the tap in the back yard. What should I do with her, she's too lazy to walk across the snow to the coop to lay her eggs!

Tie an egg pouch to her bottom.

Seriously I dunno, I'm fighting one right now too.

I will be watching this closely. I have a girl she is a polish bantam mutt of some sort and she just pops out her eggs where ever she may be at, in the run, on the patio, near the bbq, in the dog house, the list goes on and on. She is 9 months old and has only laid about 10 eggs, she will lay one then none for weeks then 3 days in a row then no eggs for weeks......or maybe i just can't find them. (but i am pretty sure she is not laying)

I have told my kids that it is constant Easter. My silly girls lay everywhere except where I want them! I have decided that I just need to put nest boxes where they lay and that way it looks like they are supposed to lay there...only they keep moving

When you get up in the mornings catch her and confine her to a nest box. As soon as she lays the egg, let her out. She will figure it out in 2 or 3 days. It's best to do it while you are going to be working around the coop so you can keep an eye on her. You also may want to observe to make sure there are no others bothering her while she is laying. Have you checked the nesting boxes for parasites/bugs. Some hens are very peculiar about the nest.

I have one that lays in the middle of the coop most of the time, I think her problem is that I have a Seven foot section of nesting boxes for them, they have a huge green Lerio Bucket and a sort of TP type thing I put in the coop for the little ones to hide in. I have 30 some hens and all of them want to lay in the Bucket, and a few in the TeePee, problem is that there isn't near enough room and they argue over whos turn it really is, and if somebody has taken over there allotted time in the bucket They will fuss and carry on, she stands around a screams at the top of her lungs and even tries to push or pull the other girls out, usually with no luck, so she just drops her egg on the floor! I gotta get more buckets!! There fairly cheap and the girls really like em! LOL

Maybe you could fence off a corner in the coop and put a nest in there, and leave her in for a few days?

Or maybe she has "irritable egg syndrome"
