My bantam frizzled cochin hen laid an egg this morning, the first one she has laid in TWO YEARS!!!! I went in and she's sitting on this tiny little brown egg. YAY!!! I had thought she would never lay another egg, she stopped laying when she was about a year old and she'd turning 3 at the end of the month... any ideas why she stopped/started laying again? Nothing has changed food/coop wise except adding a 6 month old silkie roo... O, i hope they breed!!!! wouldn't that be the cutest thing ever? Black bantam frizzled cochin X white silkie cross...
Glad I found this. I have a bantam Cochin (my avatar) who laid eggs for 1.5 years and then quit. Right about the time I lost the only rooster in the flock. I finally got another rooster- and darned if she didn't start laying again! That was a good 2 years later. (I even hatched one of her eggs with another group, turned out he cutest little roo ever seen!)
I've raised chickens a long time and have never seen another like her.
