I can imagine. And, if you're like me, you pin your hopes/dreams on that one special one...ack. I'm so sorry...my heart aches for you. Hang in there - everything happens for a reason, and maybe there's a darn good one for this loss! I sure as heck HOPE so!

I'm so sorry to hear you lost her. I can't imagine losing one of mine just as they begin to lay. (Mine are almost a year old). Like you said, you spend so much time, money and energy getting them to maturity. It's so sad to lose one that way. Is there any chance she might have been weakend by worms? Had you wormed her recently? Maybe there was something else wrong with her and the new egg laying just took too much out of her.

It sounds like one of those unexplainable deaths. I lost one with wings down and head down same type of symptoms and all the other hens were fine. I still wonder what happened but feel as though it was just something wrong with one particular bird and not contagious but something internal. Sending warm thoughts.

Just saw this ED (((hugs))) how heartbreaking for you.
This may happen again and if it does then I suggest a proper electrolyte mixture like durvet or so (instead of the sugar and vitamins)... also CALCIUM GLUCONATE (a vet will give an injection but there are OTC products and TUMS oddly enough is an emergency substitution (saw that in a vet magazine)> just crush up and mix with something)... soooo sorry you lost her.

I was giving her the eletrolyte stuff, I didnt put it on here cause I couldnt spell it and was to lazy to go look for the spelling.

What I dont understand is that she has free run of the place, her and Mr. Peacock both, they come and go as they please and they have their own roost that nothing else can use. I have grit and oyster shell out for all of my birds all the time.

When I had a goose get egg bound, she was not looking good for days before I caught it and looked it over and found that she was egg bound, as soon as we got it out of her, she did a complete turn around.

Ms. Peahen was not acting right for not even a full day and when we checked her out she had egg yoke dripping out of her, so I got some of it out,, then went back to her later and got the rest out, I know cause I peiced the egg back together and it was all there. She just never came back around, she just went down hill and then died. It was a soft shelled egg. I was so sick loosing her, we raised her from a day old..................Thanks every for the kind thoughts and words.........

It's possible that the egg yolk, when it broke inside, caused infection. Almost like an internal layer. You may never know the underlying cause...but I'm sure she enjoyed life while she was here, and she was lucky to have a wondeful handler in you, Ed!
