And I doubt she was trying to be "mean" or even dominant. Lips are reddish, and reds are an attractive color to chickens. Eyelashes fluttering I'm sure look like flying insects, and eye pupils probably look like little specks of bugs. You ARE lucky...DH got pecked right in the eye by our super friendly barred rock. His eye was horribly red for days.
Glad your girl has warmed back up to you.

Actually - one of my roosters is very much like a dog. =/ but then again he was raised w/ humans so I think he thinks he's humans. He's never attacked our faces surprisingly! But otherwise - I have 6 baby chickens (like 7 months) (cluckly/cheeko is 2 years). Who've peck at my earr (b/c of earrings)....

PINK FLIP FLOPS!! - I DUNNO WHY - but they ALL (especially the roosters) HATE PINK FLIPFLOPS!!

- Also - yes when our chickens are being bad - we'll give them a rough nudge/slap and he backs off for like afew seconds and then we feel bad and pet him lol >_>...

Back to the pecking thing, someone posted one time that their chicken pecked and snagged the contact right out of their eye (!). After reading that, my face and chicken beaks are always kept a safe distance apart.
