That's a good idea, I've heard of people making something similar with a box instead of a can but I think I'd like the can better, easier to move and won't take up as much room. Thank you for the idea!Suggestion: Get yourself an old ceramic light socket, a 40W bulb (approx.), and a tin can big enough to slip over the ceramic base. Cut one end off of the can, & cut a hole in the other end smaller than the diameter of your average egg with a hole saw. Smooth the edge of the hole with a file so nobody gets cut, plug it in, & candle away!
I had one all made up, but the can got gone; now I gotta make a new one.
So many omelets. . .
*Hopes Ravyn wants to hatch some BLRW eggs in the future*
Lavender is a favorite color of mine, so is chocolate. j/s. . .
I would be more comfortable tubing a larger bird. Th only tubing I have is 1/4 inch which is far too big for a tiddler. 2nd thoughts I may have a small Guage butterfly iv around that I can get the tubing off. Need to go hunt it down.
Oh My, this will take a bit of time to catch up on.
Don't wait on me.

These BCM have humbled me on my hatch rate. Maybe I should send them to Queenie![]()
I would love to have the better hatch, but I don't want to be knocked off my horse..lol
I don't know if I could do an eggtopsy, I'd probably break down and cry, lol. I'm a big softie. I would probably blame myself for it and then seeing the poor little thing would just push me over the edge, lol. I know it's done to learn from your mistakes and fix any problems you have control over but I still just don't think I could do it, I admire anyone who can, lol, does that make me a cream puff? Do I need another of these?

Thank you andBy no means do you need a, you need a
.
I do eggtopsies. It's the scientific side of my mind at work, I need to know if I can find a failure that I can fix. So far, I've learned a lot about turkeys and lockdown humidity. I set over 300 eggs this year and have a coop overflowing with birds to show for it, yet my hatch success rate was admittedly miserable. I did end the season with some better incubators for next year, though.
Don't feel bad if you can't bring yourself to eggtopsy. It is sad to see that little potential life, so close to success, but failed. If they die in the shell there is nothing you can do to change that. So if they don't hatch, let them cool down for 24 hours, then discard them without remorse.
Awwww, that is adorable!!! Such a good mother!!OK, so tiny chicks with broody picks are adorable, but I think that overflowing chick picks may be even better...

Yes, those are the same chicks as the ones in my avatar. The one in front is about 3/4 Frieda's size!
Oh, it did for me, too, but it choked when I hit the order button. Give it another shot tomorrowI clicked on it and it went right to the hygrometer.BTW![]()
