She said/He said Who's right? Who's wrong? No one!

Day or night my birds (both chickens and turkeys) know the difference between me and a coyote or dog or possum or coon. A reassuring word brings contented clucks.

I haven't had a mean rooster around since I was a kid, and he "accidentally" got in the way of the tractor mower deck. My roos retreat to the far side of the coop or yard when I enter. The tom turkeys don't, they walk nearby, but if I turn and face them they retreat.
Your roosters sound like my guy. He's full of bravado as long as the fence is between us, but when I step through the gate he keeps his distance. Strange part is, he'll walk around peaceably if I'm in the 4'x12' run with him, or walk down the ramp within mere inches of me in the mornings when I open the coop door. Go figure!

I've been fermenting for 3 years.  I use pellets, crumble, what ever I normally feed at the time. Sometimes I do toss some scratch in when I want to cut the protein of what ever my base feed is.  But, when I put the scratch in, they bill through it to get the chunks first.  My ferment is always nice and bubbly within 24 hours of replenishing the bucket.  Don't let it get you confused.  It's not rocket science.  1 empty bucket + 1/2 bucket full of feed + water to make to oatmeal consistency + time = bubbles.  Add raw ACV or whey from active culture yogurt if you want to speed the initial process.  So many people are scared to try something new, perhaps afraid they'll do it wrong, or make a batch and their chickens won't like it.  To those folks, I say... start small.  Make a quart first.  Realize that some chickens naturally are chicken about trying something new, while others dive in face first and never come up for air till they've licked the bowl clean.  For the chicken chickens, I recommend feeding them when they're hungry, and perhaps sprinkling some of their dry feed or scratch on top.  By the time they get through the dry familiar stuff, the FF is a fun experience for them.

I also have a question on fermented feed. I did try with starter crumbles. Stored 3-4 times for 2 days. Still no bubbles. Gave some to chickens-they loved it. My question is-was it ready if it did not bubble? Thanks for reply in advance, Linda

Mean breeds mean.  I wouldn't want to hatch any babies from a mean roo.

He has excellent colors and really pure white ear lobes and a very straight comb for a CLB roo. So I want to try and get some babies from him ....maybe a few will be nice. :fl. Anyway.

When they are free ranging he usually runs but in his coopocket and run I have to bend down some....which means closer to his level so....he tries to get me.

Busy day. Painted daughters face for work this morning.
