Some of the prettiest blues I have seen around here are from Cream Legbars
And then thou must chop down the mightiest tree in the forest with.... A HERRING!!!!
I love my EEs. I usually like to get more pure bred if I'm going to keep a group, but I really just want blue eggs at this point. Maybe I'll change my mind later. Studying SOPs and learning about things like the Double Breedings it takes to meet SOP have me burned out a little on standards. I think the best of a breed should be able to be produced by a great pair of a certain breed.Nothing at all wrong with EEs. In my area, true ameraucanas don't sell for much more than EEs. Most people just want colorful egg baskets, and green is just one more color

Is that common with CL's?My Cream Legbars are snots and I'm thinking of getting rid of them or making chicken soup. My EE's tap the newbies to establish pecking order. The CL try to put their beaks through their spines. One is a feather picker, chases everyone else, and is a general PIA. The other is not much better.
But, they do lay a large amount of nice blue eggs.

I am struggling with this one. I want purebred chickens, but purebred and SQ are 2 different things. I don't want to breed bad birds and propagate faults, further diluting what is available, but at the same time I have been following that thread for 6 months and have only seen one bird that anyone recommended keeping. For my own satisfaction, I would like knowing I had the best birds around, but my customers don't care. They want dark eggs, and when you breed towards dark eggs you breed away from SOP. Conversely, if you breed to SOP, you lose egg color. When you start culling for SOP and egg color, you will probably be left with 1% of your birds![]()

FWIW.. I just got an Eco 20 after two terrible hatches in a Hovabator. I had a great hatch from shipped eggs with the Brinsea. I can also attest to the fact, if you stack them right... you can fit 28 LF eggs in there.Yea, man, pass me some...
Hey now!I do appreciate the help (and maybe even a little concern for my eggies?) So the 20 actually holds 24 eggs? But I'm kinda lazy for the manual model.... Yep, I sound like an addict trying to quit huh?![]()
This was not a good day for me to finish my blood pressure medication!
I wouldn't use them just because of the auto sexing. It's hard enough to sell chicks straight run. I would hate to be stuck with 20 roosters from day 1
