She said/He said Who's right? Who's wrong? No one!

I'm finishing up the mega brooder this morning. Day 20 and no action on the Polish yet, but it doesn't matter, they won't be getting out anytime soon anyway...
lol I still don't know how many I want to set. Part of me thinks I should set more in case I don't have a great hatch using pullet eggs, the other part of me says if I set more I will end up with a decent hatch and have more than I want and I already have 30 here and only really want to keep less than half. What to do? What to do?

My eggs are coming in this week so I am going to get them started 12 hours after they settle. I will just be a week ahead of everyone.

I plan on setting around a tray of chicken eggs on the 21st, my last big hatch of the year.
Abou how many are you looking at?

I have out of town company coming in today for a couple days, so if I am not around and someone sees that SC needs one of these:

or maybe even one of these:

please, feel free to do it in my place.

I have also decided that I am going to choose two of the eggs. One of my Polish and one of my silkie eggs (They are the lightest in color.) And those two will be candled every night from set to lockdown. I'm doing this for two (OK, 3) reasons. One- (If my camera will cooperate and give me decent candling pics) I need pics for my blog of the process and development. Two: Because of the conservative stance on NOT candleing regulary. (Three...it just feeds my candling addiction.

And if they hatch out all right, I'm naming one Lumiere. Any "bright" ideas for the other? lol
Solis lumen.
Latin for "Sunlight" or "Sunshine".

Only 35 or so...just for backyard layers/fryer cockerels. I have had a lot of requests for live birds lately, so they may go to that as well.

After all these are done, I'll keep setting turkey eggs, but I will shut down the cabinet incubator and incubate only in the redwood incubator, manual turning, just to see how that goes.

No excuse. They can't be held responsible for me in your absence.
Nothing wrong with pullet eggs, as long as your rooster is a man

(I'm joking, don't get your feathers in a flurry.I don't think your a male...I mean, I don't think you're cocky....) LMAO I actually have two males and only 5 females so atm I am having 100% fertility in all the eggs that have been used. I am keeping an eye and prepared for seperation if I see any over riding or stress from the hens, but so far so good. I just wish my sister would bring me the other 3 silkies.I feel so bad for mine now that they are in the coop cause my one silkie sits on the bottom roost while the rest are cuddled on the top one at night. Poor girl. Plus I'd like to get my hen #'s up. There's a good chance if I can get a decent nn roo from this hatch with a nice clean neck that my dom roo will be outta here by spring! He can be a fiesty lil bugger. Good to keep predators away, not so good when he gets cocky with me...lol
