She said/He said Who's right? Who's wrong? No one!

Brinsea would have incapacitated them and held them until the cops got there :old

Lol..guess I better sell some chicks huh? I just wouldn't be able to justify the price..especially since I like to set lots of eggs..I really need to sit down and plan out a good cabinet and then use these 2 LGs as hatchers.. but I have to say..I'm proud of my El cheapos.. I'm in WV and had 30 eggs shipped from FL..got a hatch of 23 chicks out of 26 eggs that made it to lock down..have far less luck with my Polish but I swear they are more fragile and shipping is a lot harder on them for some reason?? Just a guess of course, but that's my experience. .
I think I just have a sore spot with Brinsea..especially those brooders..I can make the same thing with a dollar store heating pad and scrap wire and my chicks love them ..and I'm not out $100 if it takes a crap..

There is no doubt that you pay a lot for small capacity on them. If I had the time, or the talent, to build one I would. I just don't trust myself with anything mechanical, and with my job it was worth the price for the security of knowing it was on autopilot. I've hatched enough chicks in it to pay for the incubator and feed all year, so I'm happy with it

It's my goal for 2 years from now to have a cabinet..homemade or bought, not picky as long as it works.. but yes, I'm with you..I don't trust myself to build it and I'm lucky enough to work from home 99.9% of the time and I can be here to babysit mine..like that does a lot of good when someone unplugs the darn thing..but I ramble..lol..
figure in 2 years, I should have my main starter flocks established and should only be keeping a select few of what I hatch..hopefully I wil find a cabinet at a yard sale or flea market dirt cheap..if not..I have a great friend that is an awesome carpenter /contractor...so hope he can build me one

A build from scratch shouldn't be difficult. You can build a box, or even buy a cooler/repurpose a small fridge... add the electrical, and fudge around with the components till you get the temp regulated. Of course, when I build my fridgeabator, I'll be sure to tell you all how difficult it actually became.
