Can't wait to see the pics. How long does it take you to sex yours. This is my first full batch, and I don't have a clue. They are almost 5 weeks old and i wouldn't venture a guessDay 13 today so will be candling them tomorrow to see what's going on in them. Not much else to report on them really. Barring topping the pump water up once and looking at the incubator that's been it.
Hope all 27 are still ok![]()

Oh it depends on the individual bird. I've had some crow as early as 4 weeks others nothing till 3 month plus some even 6. Generally the rounder and neater the crest are usually girls and scruffy spikey crests boys. Also some boys have the thicker legs the bigger tail. But it's still a guessing game for me too.
They are a nightmare really![]()
I don't have a problem processing my own birds that didn't sell and were raised with the others, but I don't think I would buy meat birds just to raise and process. I don't see anything wrong with it, it's pure laziness. It's too easy to pick up a dressed chicken at the store on the way home, and if I want a real chicken, I always have that option with my own birds
Are these polish or silkies your talking about? It's funny I can't get my brain to think a silkie is anything but a female.
I thought the same thing about the crests, so last time I sold the 2 roundest, fullest as pullets at 8 weeks old. Had to trade them when they started crowing 2 months laterOh it depends on the individual bird. I've had some crow as early as 4 weeks others nothing till 3 month plus some even 6.
