She said/He said Who's right? Who's wrong? No one!

that's not bad ! you went straight from chicken to bator with no waiting for egg size to increase two things your forgetting Amy's chickens are all hybrids and their will to survive will surpass a pure breeds any time. study after study has proven this over the years. Plus Amy's will is stronger than the chicken's and to get any closer to those eggs she would have to have both cups full and then some. WV thanks

pictures of the 20 as soon as you get it. good news my eggs are selling great gonna have to get a whip after the hens and slow down hatching some

All of my hybrids have much higher hatch rates. My EEs hold the record. I am very satisfied to have a dozen healthy BCM. I paid $100 for 8 straight run chicks in January, so now I have more in the house than I do in the pen

Ok, here's the rundown:
I had 13 yesterday morning. By the time I got home, one in the brooder was on its back, feet outstretched, and barely breathing. Cull #1
#14 hatched after I got home. Very long, difficult hatch. This morning, it was splay legged to the point of dragging one behind it. Cull #2
I have successfully strapped a spraddle twice, but have had to cull 4 after strapping, and this one was in bad shape. Welcome to the blue team.
Like I said, the good news is I have 12 vigorous chicks. Eggtopsies tonight, then setting again tomorrow or Thursday

Can you as simply and goreless as possible tell how you cull? I've never had to cull and I don't want to ever, but I'd just like to hear how people do it. *sighs in remembrance of Blob*

You did great, especially for pullet BCM's... it was just your comment about the 2 culls that made me think of AK, lol...

I've only hatched 2 crosses from my BCM's so far... have been debating selling off the whole flock... Alaskan told me to keep them... eh... still thinking, lol...
I will keep them purely for the eggs. If they don't come close to SOP, I will sell them as pet quality. 95% of my customers don't care about SQ, they want the eggs, and the BCM rooster I processed this spring was delicious

.
With these, and hopefully the Ams by spring, I will have the nicest chickens anywhere near me

Also, what would be the best thing to read on BYC on how to process a single chicken? Like if there's a spare rooster in the yard that you want for Sunday dinner.

Mine lay pretty dark... lots of demand around here... but not sure if I can keep them due to finances... they're first up for cuts, lol...
