Basil too... mosquitoes and flies don't like sweet basil or mint... we have lots around our house this year and zero mosquitoes... biting gnats on the other hand are a whole different story... :/

One of my new little ameraucana has a problem. I am suspecting wry neck. She looks like she has a tick, she walks around in circles and twitches her head. They have vitamins in the water and I just gave her a few drops of nutri drench. Do I need to do any thing else?
Well the girl that sold it to me said chokecherry, but the writing on the lid says chokeberry. She said her Dad made it.![]()
Either way, it was being sold as a donation to the local food bank so even if I don't like it the money went to a good cause.
I'd love to have a Kitchen Aide... Almost got one from the thrift store a few months ago, but then realized that there was no place to put it! My kichen is more of a galley, which can be a pain. Gives me a good excuse to kick people out on Thanksgiving, though! 'Tis my kitchen. Very few people are allowed to help me in there. I think 3 or maybe 4... Canner's depressurizing. Pictures will be taken when theejars are out.Awesome! I have the food mill attachment for my Kitchen Aid mixer food grinder. I run raspberries, blackberries, blueberries and strawberries through and take out almost all the seeds, then make jam or jelly after crushing in a few whole berries for texture. I am using my husband's grandfather's 1944 National #7 pressure canner. I've put up cases of chicken broth, green beans, kidney beans in chili sauce and other good stuff. I have more food canned than I could eat in a year!Yay SC! Taking a short break--need to clean up after this6 pints of seedless blackberry jam. I learned that an electric juicer is awesome for deseeding--just feed the seeds and pulp back through a few times. I think that pic is the cleanest part of my kitchen right now :lol Then I'm going to use my pressure canner for the first time--the green beans are starting to mount up.

Sounds like us, we have a small arsenal goin at our house, lol. Wouldn't have it any other way, too many things try to eat my chickens. My dogs aren't worth squat, if I let them out they'd eat the chickens right along side the fox. I need to get a good livestock guard dog.In our densely residential yard, .177 Gamo Silent Cat for chipmunk, squirrel, groundhog, raccoon, skunk, possum. Yeah, I've heard the darker eggs are way hard to candle, I found that out tonight, lol. The dark color and the speckles make it really hard but I finally got it, thanks for all the advice though. Yeah, I'm supposed to let them sit 24 hours. It's terrible, it's like giving a kid a brand new toy that they've always wanted and then saying "Here you go... but you can't play with it for a whole day." But it's probably a good thing cause my hygrometer went whacko on me and I couldn't get the humidity right cause I couldn't really tell what it was and I wasn't sure my temp was right til I stuck an analog meat thermometer in there and it was dead on with the other 1. So tomorrow I'm going to stop at the pet store and see what I can find to use til my new 1 comes in the mail, I've heard zoo med makes good thermo/hygrometer combos. You're also trying to candle welsummer eggs, which are really difficult to candle. You might need a brighter light. You can modify a brooder lamp or any desktop lamp to make a candler. I've also heard the extra bright flashlight app is one of the best candlers you can find from a few people. I think you are supposed to let shipped eggs rest for a bit after they arrive. There's some debate on this. I wish someone who's had experience was on to help you.
Ok, here is today's collection, less than half our normal though... we have 5 broody mamas raising chicks, 5 more trying to be broody and half our birds are molting hard...
