I like the way these guys are turning out so far. By looking at combs I'm guessing 5 cockerels and 6 pullets. I hope it stays that way.

Most are all black and white, but there are 3 with brown on the wings.

Sometimes color bleed out happens in the body... one of my Bev Davis hens is like that... hard to see well, but she has brown in each feather and a light shaft in the middle...

So, when I do get eggs for my Octagon, I'll be turning it manually. I know that, to turn it, I simply, well, turn it onto a different face. I only use the bottom 3 faces, right? Do I have it sit on the bottom, flat face, or do I rotate it past the flat bit directly to each angled bottom bit? If you can see what I mean.

Good question. The auto turner slowly rocks from one angle to the other. Not sure if you should stop in the middle.

I'd say it would depend on how many times a day you tilt it... only 3, I'd go with just each side... 5 or more and I'd go side, flat, other side... but for nighttime I'd always make sure it was one side and the next night, the other side... JMO, though...

Mine are Bev Davis line chicks so it's probably the same thing. Julie told me her mossy hens lay the darkest eggs, but she's phasing them out as she gets solid dark egg layers.

Yep, same thing, lol... I've kept her cuz hers are one of the darkest too... need to start hatching those chicks and see what they throw... been working on the Am's the most this year...

I think I'm going to sleep on it tonight and think some more on it tomorrow morning with a fresh, clear head. I'm so exhausted right now I can't decide what to do and my mind is going in 20 different directions. Thank you to all of you that tried to give me the best advice you could in my situation, I really, truely, and seriously do appreciate it very much. I'll let everyone know what I decide tomorrow and maybe ask for a few more opinions. I also started another thread in this forum so I'm hoping for some feedback there as well. I just wish I had candled them the right way to begin with so I could've tried to do something to fix it from the start. I feel terrible now I'm going to go to bed now and hope I can decide something in the AM :/ Thank you guys so much again, y'all are the best

Don't feel bad, took me quite a while to figure out how to candle properly... and also to identify still alive embryos and late quitters, etc... I started with dark eggs too... talk about starting backwards, lol... all dark brown, blues and greens... they're the hardest... :/
