She said/He said Who's right? Who's wrong? No one!

I have seen those also and I'd have to rank them in the tops of most beautiful birds of any kind! I was thinking there was some special permit to own them, but it looks like Murray McMurray sells them. Oh, yet another breed to consider....
I'd think the only reason a permit would be required would be if they were considered game birds, like Mallards or Canvasback. May be wrong, though; was wrong one other time

Probably! I wouldn't do it, I would just clip their wings. I also started reading about the Madarins, but Friday beat me to it!!
I found a breeder in FL that sells eggs. I just started reading the mandarin thread! I would love to hatch them but I've been reading they are not domesticated and pretty wild, so I don't think it would be a good fit for me and the kids...but boy am I tempted!
If they're not domesticated, where does the FL breeder get his eggs? I would hope the gov't would shut him down if he were trapping & caging wild stock.

OMG!!! I just heard the sweetest little peeps coming from inside the bator, I looked through the window and no pips yet but atleast 1 has pipped internally, hopefully more than 1 :fl

I'll have to look those up. I REALLY like the Cayuga's though, I think they are gourgeous.

I recently saw a picture of a Mandarin drake posted on Facebook. Absolutely stunning!

Anyone have one?

Mandarins are gorgeous but very finicky to breed and raise... I know a couple people with them...

Biggest thing, and this will probably freak you out, you have to DROP them to get them to start eating...

Like 6 ft onto a bed... could you do that with a new hatched little duckling?? They are hatched in trees normally and the mom leaves the nest and goes to water and calls them til they all drop out of the tree... my OH found a vid on it, will see if I can get the link later...

Try adding water warmed to 100 degrees and add some sponges and dishes and try to keep it closed...
I use peanut butter jar lids with sponges if I have my trays filled and its still low...
Yeah, I have 2 and a half sponges and 2 of the channels filled. I can't fill the middle channel cause all the eggs are sitting right there over the middle channel and they are in cut down TP rolls with tissues to stabilize, the last time I tried that 1 of the tissues soaked up alot of water and soaked the egg. I freaked out, lol.
