She said/He said Who's right? Who's wrong? No one!

Mandarins are gorgeous but very finicky to breed and raise... I know a couple people with them...

Biggest thing, and this will probably freak you out, you have to DROP them to get them to start eating...

Like 6 ft onto a bed... could you do that with a new hatched little duckling?? They are hatched in trees normally and the mom leaves the nest and goes to water and calls them til they all drop out of the tree... my OH found a vid on it, will see if I can get the link later...

What a trip. Must be something from the jarring that triggers the drive to eat?

@WalnutHill thank you for meeting me and bringing some chicken eggs to hatch. Fingers crossed for some babies next month!

So excited for you, hope you have s great hatch!

Megan.  Where is your chair???

It's part of my gender selection thread.  In addition to selecting eggs according to shape, which was a success, I put the flock on multi-vits prior to collecting eggs for hatch.  It was a dismal hatch, a lot of fully developed, DIS.  IMO, the chicks grew too big to successfully pip.  I hatched (If I recall correctly, 19/28, with 25 going into lock down.)
... in the corner... :hide

Still no external pips but I think the 1, or 1's, that internally pipped did so late last night or early this morning so they'll probably pip tonight while I'm sleeping, so here's hoping that I'll wake up to some pips or zips or... :fl... hatched, healthy, happy chicks!! I also found a clean egg carton and cut it down and swapped them in to that real quick. The TP rolls were a little too tall and they would've pipped right where the egg was touching the rolls.

My second broody, the spitzhauben that has 2 developing eggs under her hit day 18 today so when I locked up for the night and did coop duties I snuck a peak and both are internally pipped high up in the air cell. She will not let me move her to the kennel, which concerns me because she has been sitting in the "chosen" nesting place of all the hens and gets pushed off daily for others to lay. I will be keeping a close eye on things tomorrow. Hopefully after seeing how aggressive she was with me when I tried to move her tonight she will be less inclined to let anyone move her tomorrow.

Good luck!

You asked for photos, here are some older siblings of those eggs:

As babies. Super fuzzy faces!

I love the hairdo on the one in the back. There are a couple of bantam chicks in there, ignore those.
That really really distinct chipmunk stripped right in the middle is really cool. The one to the right is also.
