By the way , my broody gave up at about day 10 when I moved the eggs. It is now 16 days since they were set and they show good development so I will have to see if I can get them to hatch without having a bra or incubator.

Temp varies about 3C which is about 5F.

Air cells are about the size I had day 10 in incubator, and veins and chick size look about day 14, so I'm hoping they reach awake stage on about the 23rd.

No, that will not work.

chicken eggs are set for gender when the ovum is formed--and it is determined by the ovum. The only way that gender will be changed in a hatch is if you kill off one or the other by messing up the incubator settings--which would not be beneficial. Even then, you will not guarantee that you will get more of one or the other.

It is actually related to the odds of getting heads or tails with a coin toss. Each egg that is laid can either be male or female so the chance is 50%. You can still get all of one gender in a hatch but that is because the sampling number is low.

Sorry, I should've organized my sentence better, lol. I meant that I think the do what can be done method will work. The gender thing is just something I see popping up every now and again. There was one BYC member that I know of that ran an egg size and shape method as well.
 
That would be me doing the egg shape/gender experiment. And, I challenge Ronott1, and others that say it doesn't work, to disprove the theory. Set all round eggs, or for that matter, since you say it doesn't work, set all pointed eggs, and post your results. Sounds hokey, but I can't dispute my increased pullet rate with the egg shape selection: Was getting 40% pullets before, increased rate to 60% pullets in the last 3 hatches. I don't like to be argumentative, but when someone says it doesn't work, in spite of positive results that those who play with this theory are getting, I have to stick in my 2 cents worth. So, no matter what your opinion, if you have your own eggs from your own flock, play around with it. Yes, I have a small sample in my 3 hatches, (gotta start somewhere, right?) So... come on folks, play with it!

I would love to try this and get mostly pullets. Which eggs are the ones are the ones you believe to be pullets? The round?
