She said/He said Who's right? Who's wrong? No one!

How did your hatch rates with the broody in, compared to your incubating hatch rates?

Do you hand turn, or do you have any automatic Turner?

I am terrible so far with the incubator. I placed four sets of eggs and nothing hatched but two of the last three that I threw in saying f it, in that hatch I had one that started breaking through ahead of schedule in the turner... my hens though would set on about 18 eggs and show up with 15.

Hand turning works really well if you are home to do it.............That's why I love my turner

Makes sense.

That's pretty darn good for first hatch and with styro still air.

Now I may build an incubator, since already have a beverage cooler. But really a $50 incubator and 80% hatch, it's hard, to justify buying an expensive one

I wonder, if having mixed breed eggs has anything to do with the ease of incubating?

I think hybrid vigor can definitely help in many cases. Local, freshness, health of parent stock all play into the success of a hatch.

Mixed breeds do hatch much better for me. Ravyn called it "hybrid vigor"
Sidewing built a coolerbator that he has great results with

Just thinking out loud. Seems like how with purebred dogs, you tend to have breed specific problems. Hips, or certain types of cancer, or eyesight. Often times, mutt dogs that live a lot longer a lot healthier.

I will have to find side wings bator project

I have heard that mixed are more "hardy". I did Pure Spitz and Japanese Bantams, and they hatched as well too. The Jap bantams I only had two and were a bit worried because of the lethal gene, but they both hatched, no problem, and both ended up being female...lol

I had a 100% hatch of EEs, but you may have missed it :gig
