Over the last few days, my smallest, bossiest RIR, has sung the egg song. I looked carefully, but found nothing. I'm guessing it's the equivalent of false labor.
Anyway, today, I caught her in the equipment shed, hunting a spot amongst the garden tools and woodworking equipment.
I took her to the coop and placed her in the nest tub. She immediately settled down, but she wasn't too big on the three golf balls.
Personally, I think it's because she knew that chickens don't lay day-glo green or saftey orange eggs.
I removed them, and she got busy, for about twenty minutes, rearranging the pine needles and bamboo leaves and husks.
Once again, she sang the egg song, but no egg
At the end of it all, she threw several blades of dried grass on her back, then, left the coop.
