Okay......I think I am going to convert this old shed into a coop! Not the whole shed, just the back portion.

Shed stats: Shed is about 18'long and 12'deep. Has one window (seen in picture) that has screen over it. Although the floor is covered in crap, it is a dirt floor. This is a solid wood shed, have no idea how old it is, it came with the house..

My Ideas: Convert the back portion only into chicken coop, add more windows and a run off to the left side of that window that runs along my back fence.

Inside of shed:

The long side:

I measured the shed again and it is actually 15' long by 10' wide. My plan is to section off a 10'X7' space for my coop, then use the other part of the shed for storage of....chicken stuff. I will also build an outside run that measures 6'wide by 12'long. I do have a rather large backyard that is totally fenced in that they can free range in when I'm home. I feel that this is totally doable for no more than 6 chickens.

I was actually looking at my sign up date for this site and it was in 2013. I've been dreaming of having chickens for that long!

Great idea! I signed up last January, but got my chickens in October of this year. Probably only because a co-worker of my husband’s asked if we (I) wanted them.

@tigger19687 converted a shed to a coop. I’ve been following their build thread.
I’m working on convincing my hubby that we could convert half of the shed to a coop. ;)

Your dreams are coming true then, Congrats! :wee
I would put your nest boxes along the back wall, 18 inches above the ground. Then make a poop board right above them, the length of the back wall. Unless your thinking of deep litter in your coop, then you just need a roost.
