My Welsummer was not feeling well yesterday. She did not come out of the coop as she usually does to raise a ruckus for attention or treats( cold fruit and veggies..heat wave here in NH)Her tail was down most of the day, she was not as active as usual but was drinking and ate a little. Free range time in the afternoon was much the same with her laying down in the shade while the other two foraged despite the heat. I had my bro in law help me hold her and did my best to check her over..crop was soft and not full, vent clear and did not look swollen. Comb and waddles not pale. Went to roost as usual and this morning seemed more like herself. I have been out there multiple times today soaking their pen with cold water and offering cold water with treats. I did notice that she had been in nest box twice with no egg. I just went out to cool down pen again and there was a shell less egg on the ground . The other two laid normal eggs in box and this is the first time in a year I found anything outside the nest box. She is squawking up a storm to free range and her tail is up and she looks alert and normal. She is 16 months old and i have never seen her like she was yesterday. They eat blue seal extra egg layer crumble, mealworms and fruit/veggies and plain yogurt as treats. They also free range from 4 til 730 pm. Anything else I need to look out for? Really scared me yesterday

Sometimes they lay softies, could be the heat, they can act very strange when those softies are moving on out....must feel strange.
That she perked up afterwards tells the tale.
As long as it doesn't happen constantly, nothing to worry about.

A week ago one of my chickens laid an egg with just the membrane. Never figured out which one laid it, luckily it never happened again and none of the birds looked listless. I don't know if had a problem with formation in the uterus or maybe not an efficient lack of calcium.

She hasn't laid an egg since that shell less one Thursday. Should I be concerned? She is acting completely normal

They free range, correct?
Could she have laid out in range area?
Being a new layer, and wellies aren't the most prolific layers, as long as she eating/drinking/pooping and moving around well, I wouldn't worry.

They free range supervised from 4p til roost time. I have had them since last summer and not once have any laid outside of nest. The shell less one in the pen was the first. I keep my eyes on them pretty much the whole time they free range. She is eating drinking etc normally
