For the past two nights one of my three hens has layed eggs with a soft rubber like shell. This has happened while on the roost around 11pm. She is 8 months old. My other two hens are laying normally.

Otherwise she appears happy and normal. They are eating 20% protein layer pellets. We recently changed from 17% protein.

Anything to be concerned about?

How long has she been laying?

Softshell eggs often are laid 'not in the nest'.
I believe they 'feel' different so are not 'deposited' as hard shelled eggs are...they just don't know to go to a nest. Which is fine for me as I hate cleaning them out of the nests.

As to why she is laying softies....could be many reasons...could be a one(two) off glitch or a more serious issue. I'd not worry too much unless it happens constantly, even then... if the rest of the flock is laying well on the diet provided, then it's an individual bird thing that can be hard to diagnose let alone treat.
